The three states of rental homes
Ongemeubileerd / unfurnished (unoccupied) — "Ongemeubileerd" means the home is completely empty: no flooring, curtains, appliances, or basic fittings. You arrange everything yourself — from toilet seats and shower heads to door handles, lights, and hooks. Many social housing units are rented this way.
Gestoffeerd / semi-furnished — "Gestoffeerd" means partially fitted out. Expect basic flooring (laminate or carpet), simple appliances (but often no oven), and sometimes curtains. You will still need to make the home livable.
Gemeubileerd / fully furnished — "Gemeubileerd" means move-in ready. These homes come with furniture and equipment so you can move in immediately.
